Does Insurance Cover Botox?

If you want Botox injections for cosmetic purposes, don’t expect them to be covered by most health insurance providers.

But you may be able to get Botox covered when used for health purposes. There are numerous medical uses for Botox, many of which have already been approved by the FDA and may be accepted by insurance.

Aside from reducing fine lines and wrinkles, Botox can eliminate excessive sweating, treat migraines, and help an overactive bladder, among other benefits.

But don’t expect this Botox to affect your appearance. For example, if you get a Botox injection to treat migraines, the dose and type of injection isn’t the same as those used for wrinkles. So even if Botox is injected in the face, don’t expect to see any cosmetic enhancement, unless you opt for a treatment specifically for wrinkles.

If you’re considering Botox for improvements in skin, expect results to last several months before fading away. And the results are nearly immediate (expect only a couple days to notice a difference), instead of weeks or months waiting for anti-aging creams and serums to work.
