The fashion shows in NYC during fashion week are famous, but they aren’t open to the public. That doesn’t mean you can’t score a ticket, though.

Here are a few tips on how to get the most out of New York Fashion Week.

1. Make a Show Wishlist Months in Advance

Making a wishlist is a necessary step to attending shows. Our advice is to pick a few shows that you already know you’d love to see, and then spend some time discovering a few newcomers.

Young designers at NYFW might not have the same glamour as the seasoned design veterans. But fashion week isn’t just about existing styles, it’s about the new and fresh.

Don’t miss out on an opportunity to discover the next big designer. Add a few surprises to your list.

2. Send Ticket Requests and Follow Up

NYFW shows are typically “by invite only”. So unless you’re an A-list celebrity, you’ll have to work with the PR representatives to request a ticket.

Once you’ve made a wishlist of shows, you’ll need to research their PR personnel and send an email requesting a ticket.

It’s rare that they respond after one email, so send follow-ups for a better chance at getting a ticket.

When you do receive a ticket, make sure to RSVP to the event.

3. Find the Right Place to Stay

Booking a hotel in Manhattan during the first 2 weeks of September may cost you dearly.

But booking hotel rooms doesn’t have to be difficult. Use World Roamer to find the right place to stay without paying an arm and a leg to enjoy New York Fashion Week.

4. Don’t Turn Your Nose Up To a Standing Assignment

The front row (and almost all other seats) are reserved for celebrities, insiders, and high-profile bloggers.

If you’re not on that list, then it’s likely that you’ll be given a “standing assignment”. But don’t be disappointed. Standing typically gives you a better view of the show and room to move around.

5. Enjoy The Street Style

High fashion isn’t exclusive to the runway. Many people enjoy the street style looks people wear to attend events.

If you’ve got an opening in your show schedule and there’s a big show happening, stand outside and enjoy the modern, daring looks showcased by the attendees.

6. Watch Remotely

You won’t be able to get tickets to all the shows on your wishlist, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the action.

You can stream and rewatch fashion week’s hottest shows and events from NYFW All Access.

This is a great way to get inside access to shows you weren’t able to get tickets for.
