Happy Person Exploring Nature

Are you plagued by self-doubt? While it’s perfectly normal to feel uncertain at times, if it gets out of control, it can seriously hold you back.

From causing a ton of unnecessary stress to keeping you from following your dreams, a lack of confidence will permeate every part of your life. If this sounds familiar, take a look at these five tips to help boost your confidence and self-esteem.

1. Practice Positive Self-Talk

Almost all of the time, we are our own worst critic.

When you hear yourself thinking negative thoughts, ask yourself if you would say those same things to your good friend or a loved one. If the answer is no, stop telling them to yourself!

Another great way to build up your self-confidence is to make a list of all the things you’ve done successfully. No accomplishment is too small! If it comes to mind, write it down.

Doing this every day will put you in a positive mindset and allow you to appreciate all the things you do well.

2. Go for Good Enough

Trying to be perfect will only lead you to disappointment.

Feeling like you have to meet an unattainable standard will cause you to procrastinate and can even paralyze you from taking action. This is a surefire way to chip away at your self-esteem.

Instead, learn how to be happy with “good enough.” Do your best, and accept the results for what they are. Chances are you’ll actually end up surprising yourself.

3. Rethink Your Friendships

If you’re surrounded by negative people who don’t build you up, it will be hard for you to find the confidence you need. Take a hard look at the people you spend your time with and start distancing yourself from anyone who brings you down.

Although you may want to talk to close friends and loved ones about how they’re making you feel, remember that people rarely change. If you need to walk away to save your own self-esteem, it’s well worth it.

4. Consume Positive Media

Not everyone has access to a positive support system, and even if you do, you can never have too much. This is one of the reasons why it’s a great idea to consume positive media.

Motivating books, movies, and even podcasts can completely change your outlook on life!

5. Learn from Your Mistakes

Sometimes, a lack of confidence and self-esteem can creep up after you’ve made a mistake. If you find yourself in this situation, remember that it happens to the best of us!

Just because you’ve failed at something, it doesn’t mean you’re a failure. Instead of giving up, use the opportunity to learn from your mistakes and come back stronger than ever.
