Wear a Suit the Right Way

You know what they say: you need to dress for success. And for work, styling a suit the right way can mean all the difference when it comes to making an impression on your boss, coworkers, and clients.

While you might own a suit, you might not know how to wear it right.

Have you been making the wrong impression? Then it’s time to rectify the situation. Read on to learn how to wear a suit correctly so you’ll look dapper!

Make Sure It Fits

Have you ever seen someone walking around with a loose suit on, looking like they’re swimming in it? On the other hand, you’ll also witness people trying to breathe in a buttoned-up suit that’s about to pop off!

The fact is, you probably won’t be able to wear a suit right off the rack. So it’s worth spending some extra time and money getting it tailored to your body.

The jacket length should be long enough to cover your rear but short enough to reach your hands midway. The sleeve length should expose just a tiny bit of your dress shirt cuff.

As for your suit pants, they should be long enough that they’re not gathering at the ankle yet not so short that your ankles are exposed.

Buttons

In general, you should leave the bottom button on your suit jacket undone; it’s just there for looks. Otherwise, you might look stuffed into your suit jacket! If you have a three-piece suit, like Steve Harvey Suits, you’ll also want to leave the bottom button undone.

You’ll also want to unbutton all buttons when sitting down. Again, if you don’t, you’ll risk looking awkward and stuffed in.

As for your dress shirt, button all buttons, including the one at the very top.

Accessories

When wearing a suit, you can always accessorize a handkerchief in the breast pocket or a pin on your lapel. But be careful not to go overboard, as it’ll look too busy. You want to just add 1 or 2 things so they give a nice touch on top of your outfit.

As for your tie, you’ll want to pick a color that contrasts with your suit. Otherwise, if you choose something too similar in hue, your tie will just blend in and be swallowed by your suit. The same goes for your shoes.

When it comes to socks, you don’t want to wear white. Darker tones are better for matching and complementing your suit.
