You might think that jewelry is the best go-to when it comes to complimenting an outfit with accessories. But what about nail polish?
There are so many creative ways in which you can utilize the color of your nail polish to help your outfit pop.
Whether is just an understated finish, or a bold statement, here are some ideas…
1. Start with the Basics
If you’re not too keen on the idea of going bold with your nail polish color, then don’t worry. There are still plenty of opportunities to use a neutral, low key tone that will still elevate your look.
When corresponding, you want to also compliment.
So if your outfit is a plainer, neutral tone, go for the basics. Select nude, cream, beige, pale pink, even soft white or clear nail polish.
2. Mix and Match
Perhaps you’d like to really make a statement and go for an array of different nail polish colors.
This is a bolder movie, but it can look classic, as well as “out there”. It depends on the look you’re trying to achieve.
Sometimes, a white or plain outfit is made even more head-turning by painting your nails in a variety of different, brightly colored shades. Give it a try and see what you think.
With this look, it’s your nails that are doing the talking.
3. Blocking
Color blocking means wearing blocks of colors – but your nail polish can be worked into the process as well.
It tends to produce a bolder look, using louder shades instead of demure ones.
This will work if your outfit features solid colors, perhaps in more than one shade. For example, a red blouse and a cream skirt will compliment each other – but painting your nails a bright red as well will give the look that extra pop.
Don’t be afraid of clashing color blocking too. Orange and yellow clothing with a loud pop of purple, for example, will look sensational. There’s certainly plenty to choose from.
4. Accessorize with Accessories
As mentioned earlier, jewelry is a great way of accessorizing and bringing added life to an outfit.
So why not use nail polish and jewelry to lift a look.
Perhaps you have an all-white outfit? Add pops of color with matching bright nails and jewelry in the same shades. Or choose two loud colors that work well together and paint your nails one color and use jewelry in the other color.
It’s equally possible to do this the other way around: a bright outfit with plain jewelry and nails.
5. Plain Jane?
Think about the clothes and whether or not they’re plain or patterned.
A general rule of thumb is to avoid colorful nails if your outfit is patterned or features a detailed print design. The outfit will do the talking here, and your nails will detract from it if you choose a bold polish.
