Travel Outfit

Are you planning a trip abroad? Are you lost on what to wear?

Figuring out what to wear to travel and what to pack for once you’re there can be difficult – but it can be simpler than you think. You just need to make sure that you prepare for your journey in advance.

Don’t worry, we’re here to point you in the right direction. We’ve got the top tips on what to wear when traveling so you’ll be comfortable and stylish.

Pack Plenty of Layers

Layers are incredibly useful when you’re traveling. That way, if there are sudden changes in the weather, you’ll still be prepared to change it up. T-shirts, tank tops, cardigans, scarves, and the like, are all useful tools when you’re heading out to travel.

You’ll also want to make sure you have enough layers to last your whole trip, so keep the amount of time you’ll be away in mind when you’re packing for your trip.

If you do need a coat for your travels, look for a classy overcoat. Tweed is a great fabric if you’re looking for something warmer. Also, you can never go wrong with the classic Burberry-style khaki trench coat.

Some other great choices are a duster with an oversized lapel, or a faux-fur peacoat.

These coats are incredibly easy to accessorize with the rest of your wardrobe, so you’ll be able to easily mix and match.

If you don’t need anything quite that warm, you can look into blazers, windbreakers, jean jackets, leather jackets, bomber jackets, or other types of shorter coats. Of course, if you’re heading to the desert, you might be looking for something a little bit cooler. Look for lighter colors and floaty, light fabrics if you need clothing that will keep your body temperature down while you head out by the pool.

Make Sure You Have “Travel” Clothing

You need to make sure that when you’re traveling, you have clothing that’s actually useful for the traveling part. You’ll need pants without constricting your waistband, and shoes that are easily removed if you plan on taking an airplane. And seriously, no matter how much you want to, skip the heels.

A hoodie is always a necessity, or another type of sweater if you’re not a hoodie person. Stick to breathable fabrics like cotton, so that you don’t get sweaty while you’re on the plane. And when possible, stay away from anything too tight.

You’re looking for moveability when you’re traveling, with all of the moving around you have to do!

Leggings are one great option when it comes to wearing pants when you are traveling. They are comfortable, and there are tons of different options depending on your comfort. Plus, there are fancier ones if you feel uncomfortable going the route of sweatpants or pajamas. Leggings come in a variety of colors and patterns for whatever mood happens to strike you.

Basically, you’re looking for both comfort and functionality in your travel clothing. You don’t want to be running for a connecting flight in skinny jeans and a crop top, after all!

Prepare for the Occasion

You’ll need different items in your travels depending on your destination. If you’re headed out to the country to hike and fish, you’ll need much more durable clothing than a glamorous trip to Paris, or a business trip to Chicago. If you have a charity gala to attend, you’ll have different needs than if you’re running a marathon, going camping in the Australian Outback, or backpacking through Central Europe.

You should make a packing list in advance of your trip, so that you know what you have, what you need, and what you haven’t packed yet. Being organized is a great way to prepare for any occasion, especially when you’re preparing for a big trip.

However, there are some universal basic needs for any trip you’re planning. If you plan to be walking a lot, make sure you have the best shoes available.

Make sure you check the weather for your destination! You don’t want to be scrambling to buy a sweater or sweating through your clothes.

Plus, there are always a certain amount of essentials any person needs. Underwear, pajamas, socks that suit every pair of shoes you wear, backpacks or purses, and the like — no matter where you’re going, you’ll likely need some of these things to get by during your travels.

When in Doubt, Wear Black

When you’re completely lost for what to wear, you can always default to the basic, and chic, black. Make sure that the shades of black match, and that none of the shades are faded. Otherwise, you’ll be defeating the purpose of wearing all black.

Or, you can stick to other basics, like classic white Oxford shirts, basic jeans, V-neck t-shirts, chambray button-downs, simple loafers, a little black dress, classic white sneakers — these are just some of the basics that can make up an easy and stylish travel wardrobe.

Just make sure to look for clothes that don’t need to be ironed, and ideally clothes that aren’t dry clean only. You don’t need to be rushing around looking for a dry cleaner or emergency cleaning facility in a foreign city or country, after all.
