Types of Jewelry for Women

Between 80 and 90 percent of women have their ears pierced, and many have other body parts pierced. The most common non-earlobe piercing site is the navel, which 33 percent of women have. This is followed in popularity by nose piercings, with 18 percent of women having them.

These piercings require jewelry for more than aesthetics. Keeping the right jewelry in piercings at all times also prevents them from closing up. But what are the different types of jewelry for women? Continue reading to find out.

Jewelry Material Types

Jewelry can be made from a range of materials. Cheaper jewelry is often made of plastic or poor-quality metals. While some women can wear these kinds of jewelry without issues, others have allergies or skin discoloration from wearing them.

Higher quality jewelry is usually made from pure metals, like gold, silver, or stainless steel. These materials are safer for the general population because they’re less likely to cause an allergic reaction. However, you can use alternatives like gold filled jewelry or gold-plated jewelry for some of the same benefits at a lower price.

Different Types of Body Jewelry

There are dozens of potential body piercing sites. Each piercing site on the body requires a different form of jewelry. A few of the most common examples are discussed below.

Ears

Ear piercings are the most common among women, and rising numbers of men are also receiving them. Depending on the piercing location, people may wear studs, hoops, or drop earrings. You can also wear industrial bars through the tops of the ear with certain piercing types.

Nipples

The jewelry for nipple piercings is usually either bars or hoops. These can be decorated with various designs. However, since nipple piercings are prone to being pulled, most associated jewelry is very simple.

Nose

Nose piercings can either be placed on the nostril or the septum, the middle piece at the bottom. Nostril piercings are usually either corkscrews or hoops. Septum piercings are usually curved bars or hoops.

Eyebrow

Eyebrow piercings can be placed anywhere along the eyebrow but are usually near the tapered side at the edge of the face. These piercings are traditionally bars but can also be hoops.

Navel

Navel piercings are a common piercing for women and can be done on the top or bottom portion of the belly button. Naval piercings are generally curved bars. Some have dangling portions with gems, jewels, or charms.

Lip

Lip piercings can be done anywhere on the lips. Studs are the most common form of lip jewelry, but sometimes hoops or bars are also used.

Tongue

Tongue piercings are usually done near the tongue’s end (but not along the tip because this causes splitting). Tongue piercings are generally bars.
