personal style

We’ve all stood in front of an open closet and shouted, “I have nothing to wear!”. We often have a few favorites we wear into rags and largely barely entertain the rest.

Your own personal style should be just that. Yours. Just because your favorite celebrity looks fabulous in something, doesn’t mean it will look good on you. It also doesn’t mean you should rush out and buy it.

Here’s a quick look at finding your own style.

Finding your own Personal Style

It can be intimidating, trying on clothes, trying to decide what items to buy. If you have a certain way you dress for work, you often want the opposite for your leisure time.

1. Eff The Trends

Why would you want to look like everyone else? A quick look through the history of style will not always be kind. But do you think you’re doing yourself any favors by slopping around town is sweatpants with ‘juicy’ emblazoned across your derriere?

Trends are just that. You see them everywhere for a while and then they become so last week. Unfortunately, these items are often expensive.

2. Shoot for Comfort

Stuffing yourself into clothing that is too tight, cuts into to your causes you to get airsick from the high heels is not worth it. Wear clothing you are more comfortable in.

You can find clothes for an evening out that look great and still allow you to sit, breath and eat.

3. Wear What You Like

Don’t allow your friends to fashion-shame you. Wear whatever you want. If you think 1985 K.D. Lang had the best look, go for it. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.

Take the items you like and have them altered. It’s the best way to ensure the perfect fit. It’s the best way to make them yours and get the most use out of them

5. Get a few Good Items

When you find something you really like, buy a few. Whether it’s shoes, a jacket or a great pair of jeans. Get them in different colors and patterns. You can use them with different items for a well-rounded wardrobe.

Buy quality items, use a tailor to get the fit just right and you will get years of use out of them.

You Wear it Well

Your personal style should reflect who you are. Don’t worry about what the mannequins are wearing. Going against the trend is far better. Free yourself from the clothes horses in magazines or what everyone else is wearing.

Have fun with your clothes, don’t be afraid of bold colors and unique styles and patterns. Only you know what you like best. Wear it.
